Community Carol Festival

Thursday 12th December 2013

This year, President for 2013/4 Alan Gelling resurrected the special Christmas event "Community Carol Service".

The event for 2013 was held in the Methodist Church on Waterloo Road in Ramsey and was very well attended by members of the local Community and various representatives from the local Faith Churches.

With readings and Carols a plenty, the evening was a great success and raised a generous £460 for local Rotary Charities.

This is going to be an annual event which will move around the Churches in the North to promote the Community spirit with which Rotary is synonymous.

The Future and what it means to Ramsey Rotary

Tuesday 10th December 2013

The Club met for a lively discussion and debate on the future of the Club and how/if we need to make changes to the way the Club is run to increase membership and strengthen the Club for the Future.

We will meet to discuss ideas on the 7th January 2014.

Rushen & Western Mann - 40th Charter Night

In a change to the usual schedule, Council agreed to change the normal Tuesday meeting for this more worthy evening in the company of Rushen & Western Mann.

Evening with Ushi Shah

Fresh from her recent humanitarian trip to Kenya, Ushi gave a moving account of her efforts to the members on the project which the International Committee already provided some support.

Brewery Tour - Okells

Tuesday 24th September 2013

Heron & Brearley hosted a this brewery tour where the members were treated to an full explanation of the process and history of brewing in the Isle of Man.

Despite some attempts to get us back on the coach, the members managed to eek out some extra time in the bar but still left rather too much beer untouched!

Dinner was a lavish affair at the British on Douglas North Quay.

The Rotary Club of Ramsey can officially organise a worthy event in a brewery!

Crown Green Bowling

Tuesday 27th August 2013

Courtesy of South Ramsey Bowls Club, the members were treated to an evening of relaxed competition, well, as relaxed as any sport can be!

Eventual winners just happened to be the organiser, Ronnie Doyle's team, but we'll not hold that against him.

A simple dinner was held afterwards at the Bistro for all those who attended and also those who didn't!

Ramsey Heritage Centre Opening Day

Saturday 24th August 2013

A day to remember for the Rotary Club of Ramsey and all those Rotarians who have worked tirelessly over the last couple of years to bring this ambitious project to fruition.

The opening itself was very well attended with various members of the local community and our guest of Honour, Malcom Tyson of the Scott Trust gave a rousing speech before opening the centre for us.

With various speeches on the day and an excellent buffet provided by the Harbour Bistro, all those attending were able to see first hand what the centre has become.
More information about the centre will be available in the coming months on the "Projects" tab

Hog Roast

Sunday 4th August 2013

Hosted by the Inner Wheel of Ramsey, this years Hog Roast was held at the home of PP James Duncan.  The weather was glorious, the Pig well and truly roasted and the company more than satisfactory!

Thanks must go to the Inner Wheel who provided the hard work and organisation for the day.

Mannin Art Show

Tuesday 30th July 2013

Exhibition was a great success.  Both in terms of monies earned by Mannin Art, which goes in to the coffers to support future Mannin Art Projects  and supporting a local Charity.

Ramsey Rotary were afforded the opportunity to have a private viewing, arranged by Ronnie. The only other private viewing was by special  invitation to the Exhibition Preview on Wednesday 24th July.  So this was a unique opportunity to enjoy an unhurried viewing.

Wine and nibbles were supplied by Mannin Art Group and Ronnie.

A couple of watercolours were sold on the evening.  A total of 215 paintings were on display by 67 artists, with in excessive of 25% being sold during the exhibition.

Using the Ramsey Rotary Website

Tuesday 9th July 2013

The Rotary Club were overjoyed to learn that the evening presentation was to be another "Evening With" event.

Once again the entertainment was supplied by Rotarian, Marc Pons-Burt.  The topic was getting to grips with the Clubs own website, covering items such as Calendar, secure areas and the dangers of being caught doing something amusing on Camera!!

Despite some attempts at heckling from the back of the room (which was dealt with swiftly!), the overall experience for members showed the "Silver Surfers" to be the most accomplished at using the site!
