Visit to the Old House of Keys, Castletown

On the day Tynwald elected its first ever Lady President the Club visited Manx National Heritages Old House of Keys in Castletown.
Members sat at the original House of Keys debating table and had the opportunity to change the course of the islands history by voting on subjects actually determined by the House of Keys since the 1800’s including the introduction of a popularly elected government, giving women the vote, allowing road closures for the road racing, and establishing a low tax regime.
Surprisingly most of the decisions followed the actual decisions made by the Governments of their times.
Afterwards the Club enjoyed refreshments at the Whitestone at Ballasalla before making the long trek up north. Thanks to PP Terry for making all the arrangements, the Old House of Keys is definitely an experience to be recommended.

Crocus Bulb Planting 2011Saturday 5th March 2011, Kevin Halsall and his team of helpers managed to raise £130 to add to the monies raised from the coffee morning.
The bulbs have been very successful and have left the area outside the Police Station looking rather purple. The bulbs have taken well and given real colour to the garden space around the Police Station.
A fantastic job done by all those planters. The luscious colour has given new depth to the very well kept flower beds. These are maintained by the Ramsey Town Commissioners. |
Coffee Morning 2011 and Crocus PlantingSaturday 19th February at the Town Hall between 10.30am and 12 noon, a coffee morning was held to raise monies for the planting of Crocus's at the Police Station Gardens in Ramsey. People attending paid £1 at the door.
