Magic Show by the Magicians of Mann 2010

The Rotary Club of Ramsey were pleased to present a Magic Show by The Magicians of Mann and The Young Magicians of Mann at Scoill Ree Gorree, Ramsey on Friday 21st May 2010 between 7.30pm and 9pm.
Doors opened at 7:00pm and the tickets were priced at £6.00 each. The evening was very well attended and all those present thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
The net result for the evening of £333.00 went towards the Foundation Committee's contribution to the Rotary International Thanks for Life Campaign to end polio.

Thanks for Life 2010
On the 23rd February 2010 some of the members spent the day collecting for the Thanks for Life Charity.
Members collected at both Shoprite and Ramsey Town Hall. A total of £551 was raised by the 12 members who were involved in the day.

Coffee Morning 2010

On the 30th January, in aid of Youth Services Projects, the two Pauls, Desmond and Kinnin, raised the sum of £700.00.
The coffee morning was very successful and was held at the Ramsey Town Hall with the assistance of the Ladies of the Inner Wheel.
23 Club members attended the morning and a very enjoyable time was had by all who attended.

Isle of Man Young Chef Competition 2010

The Rotary Club of Ramsey kindly supported by Manx Shoprite were pleased organised the inaugural Isle of Man Young Chef Competition in association with the Isle of Man College.
The competition was specifically for students aged 17 years of age or under, on the 31st August 2009. The competition aimed to encourage young people to do the following:
1st Prize for the successful finalist was entry into the prestigious Rotary Young Chef 2010 competition organised by Rotary International of Great Britain and Ireland in association with Fillippo Berio Olive Oil. Initially a number of students from around the Island provided a written submission on how they would approach the competition and from these applicants three were chosen for a cook off at the Isle of Man College on Wednesday 10th February.
Three Young Chefs; Luke Callister of Douglas, Laura Dixon of Ballasalla and Kervin Della Fuenta of Douglas made it through to a well contested final. Three runners up; Jocelyn Houreau, Mary Kennish and Suzanna Skelly, all students of Ramsey Grammar School received certificates in recognition of their work.
The Judges for the cook off were well known Island Chef Tony Quirk an experienced judge at prestigious national competitions and Past President of Ramsey Rotary Club James Duncan, Founder of Ramsey Bakery who is himself a qualified chef.
Luke Callister was the successful winner and Laura Dixon the runner up. At the prize giving immediately afterwards Eugene Lantry, President Elect of the Rotary Club of Ramsey announced that two places had been secured in the next round of the event which was the District Final that was to be held at Riverside School in Radcliffe in Manchester on Wednesday the 3rd March.
Therefore Luke and Laura with their tutor Andy Parker were to represent the Isle of Man at that event at which ten Young Chefs were to compete for two places in the Regional Final which would be held at Llandrillo College North Wales on the 20th March.
Eugene Lantry also paid tribute to the Isle of Man College and their team including Mary Wilson and Margaret Manning for their great help in getting the competition up and going in such a short time. Each of the six students received a token prize for their efforts and the travel costs for the next round were being funded by sponsors including Shoprite, Rotary Club of Ramsey and Rotary District 1280.

Laura scooped the 3rd Place in the District Finals and Luke was highly commended. Note that Laura has the Ramsey Isle of Man Rotary logo clearly shown on her sleeve. Well done to both of them and thank you to all those involved. |
Club Visit to Ramsey BakeryOn the 13th October 2009 Past President, Jim Duncan, very kindly gave the member of the Club a tour of his Bakery and arranged for a production team to show us the process of bread making, slicing and packaging.

Duck Dash 2009

Sunday the 5th July saw the running of the ducks in the Rotary organised Duck Dash.
President Simon congratulates the winner of the Duck Dash, Miriam Critchlow from Peel who received a cheque for £200.00 as her prize.
The event raised £468 and the winner Miriam Critchlow has kindly rounded the amount up by sending a cheque for £32.
£500 was an excellent result, well done Paul and his Committee.
