The Project
As a Rotary Club, we have been involved with many different charities over the years, making a varying impact dependent on how much we have been able to provide support.
One of these Charities is "Beach Buddies" and we have been proud to sponsor some of the recycling bins along the Mooragh Promenade in Ramsey. This particular Charity has been amazing at bringing the plight of our overuse of plastics to the attention of the Public, not just on the Isle of Man, but worldwide and have received deserved recognition for their work.
Just one particular area which we can all make a change with, is single use Plastics. In particular, single use Water Bottles. These have always been seen as a necessary evil for everyone needing to keep hydrated. However, the move to re-usable water bottles, while being fantastic has always been restricted because finding somewhere to fill up has always been a challenge.
The Rotary Club of Ramsey completed recognises this flaw in the grand plan and as such launched our own fundraising plan to help the Town of Ramsey provide fresh and clean drinking water to anyone who wants it.
Fortunately for us, we have close working relationship with the Town's Commissioners and have been able to work with them on what we see as our first part of the plan, we hope to bring more services to Ramsey and the wider Island.

Ramsey Mooragh Park InstallationWe have started this project with the installation of 2 brand new and weather proof water refill stands within the Mooragh Park in Ramsey.
Designed to withstand the harsh winters in the North, these stations can be used all year round and will provide free water for the patrons of the park. As a result of the food stall at Ramsey Rotary Funday 2019, we raised enough funds to match the grand agreed by our own Rotary District who were supporting our project. The costs associated with the installation (plumbing, groundworks etc) were paid by the Commissioners. This has been an important project to be undertaken with the local Commissioners and we are pleased to have helped the Town of Ramsey make its stand against single use plastics! |
